Diabetic-friendly foods with iron?

Diabetic-friendly foods with iron?

Brian has a question I haven’t heard before… Any advice?

I am a Type 2 diabetic and just recently I broke my hand in a freak accident.

To cut a long story short, the blood tests showed that I have a serious iron deficiency and I’m on a course of iron and Vitamin C supplements.

My question is: what foods contain iron that I can add to my diet?

Thanks!

  1. Hi there!
I recently reviewed a number of articles on iron deficiency and learn the following:
    – Increasing dietary intake of iron cannot be used to treat established iron deficiency. This is because a 2,000-calorie, balanced diet can only provide about 10mg of iron, compared to the 65mg in one 325mg ferrous sulphate table
    – More iron is found in meat sources than in plant foods, and it’s better absorbed, as is iron in an acidic environment. It’s therefore a good idea to eat meat, fish and poultry if you’re not vegetarian.
    Hope this helps!
