No signs of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

Hi all.

I am mother to a 6 year old Type 1 diabetic. I live in Tableview, Cape Town and would love to connect with parents to other diabetic children. Are there any support groups we could join?

Also, my daughter is no longer showing signs of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). She can feel it but if she does not say we can’t tell.

I have asked her doctor and he said “that’s scary” without any course of action.

Any suggestions?

    Hi Mrs Jones
The Red Cross Children’s hospital has many children of your sons age and there is a fairly active support group run by our parents. The next activity is a picnic on the 14 April where we will all meet to connect.we also are having a high tea on the 31st March.
Being a parent of a young child with Diabetes can be challenging especially if you have no support systems in place.
Hypoglycaemia can be managed and perhaps his glucose control is too tight and needs to be relaxed a little to allow him to become aware of lows again. If a little one is too tightly controlled they can lose the abilty to feel lows
You should discuss this with your doctor
    Hope this is useful
    regards
