Diaboogle – a diabetes search engine

We live in a world where the answer to almost any question is: “Just Google it!”

But Googling health information is notoriously dangerous, as many websites don’t have any medical background or any idea of what they’re talking about. Not every website has a Panel of Experts to turn to with questions. That’s why it’s so important to only get information from trusted websites. The problem is, which websites to trust?

Diaboogle (www.diaboogle.com) is a diabetes-minded search engine that directs users only to sites that have been vetted by a diabetic, i.e. all the dodgy websites have been cut out. As the logo says, ‘Looking for information about diabetes? You’ve come to the right place.’

Of course, as with any international websites, the problem is that most of the content is American, which means not only different ways of measuring blood glucose (mg/dl instead of mmol/l, i.e. in hundreds instead of units with a point measurement), but also that the South African diet is so different to the American one.

Still, for general information Diaboogle is a valuable tool – give it a try and let us know what you think!
